Rosso Piceno Superiore and Rosso Piceno comprise the red grape blends for which the DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) zone is known. They combine two well-known Italian varietals, the Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes. These varietals were first recognized with the DOC designation in 1969. Wines with the “Rosso Piceno” or “Piceno” DOC title can be produced only with grapes that are grown in the Marche Region, Italy.
Easy-drinking and medium-bodied, showing light, chewy tannins framing dark and brambly flavors of blackberry, woodsy spice and dried fig, with a touch of licorice.
