Quantum is the smallest unit of energy achievable in science. Each tiny particle – each singular quantum – holds unique potential to contribute to a larger being. When these units combine, each quantum contributes its specific essence, resulting in a system of great expression and complexity. Similarly in wine, Beringer recognizes that each grape varietal offers unique flavor and structure, and that each vineyard and block of vines contributes yet another expression of those varietals. In other words, each of these components acts as a quantum. When these varietals, or quanta combine, they produce something of far greater value. Something that bundles a source of life; something marked by layered complexity.
90 POINTS, THE WINE ADVOCATE
"The 2013 Quantum is full of dark cherry, espresso, tobacco, and leather aromas. Notes of ripe plum, vanilla, and boysenberry jam are accented by a hint of sage and savory brown spices. It is a fleshy, distinctive wine with silken tannins and a lush, rounded profile." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, March 2016
The 2013 Quantum offers aromatic notes of dark cherry, espresso, tobacco, and leather. Notes of ripe plum, vanilla, and boysenberry jam are accented by subtle brown spice. It is a rich, fleshy wine with silken tannins and a lush, rounded profile.
Beringer farms a unique and irreplaceable collection of remarkable vineyard sites. With the Quantum blend, the wine highlights the individual properties of each varietal to create a wine with balance, structure and flavor. Overall, it was a high quality crop that was above average in quantity. The grapes for the 2013 Quantum were harvested between September 17th and October 21st.
The 2013 vintage began with a warm, dry spring and relatively early bud break. Summer was notably consistent with even, warm temperatures throughout. Harvest began quite early in August, and by September the majority of whites and lighter reds were completely off the vines. Cool yet sunny weather in October allowed the final grapes on the vine to linger and develop great phenolic and flavor maturities while maintaining steady sugar levels.
